Plastic Sheds

Benefits of a plastic shed

Plastic sheds add long-term value to your garden – offering a safe and secure space for storage.

The main benefits include:

  • Cost

  • Durability

  • Portability

  • Ease of assembly

  • Functionality

Not only are they easy to order and assemble, they’re also very durable and able to withstand the elements all year round, rain or shine.

Cost is also a beneficial factor when it comes to plastic garden sheds. Polycarbonate sheds are much more cost-effective than sheds made exclusively from other materials - like metal or timber.

For the most part, this is because polycarbonate generally lasts longer - but it’s also a cheaper material to buy.

There is also the portability aspect to consider. Lightweight plastic sheds are much easier to move around because it requires minimal fuss to disassemble them and rebuild the shed elsewhere if required.

Unlike sheds made from other materials, plastic sheds don’t require any expert knowledge, building experience, or special tools to put them together.

Once they are assembled however, you can benefit from a range of storage functions - as plastic sheds can be used for a wide variety of purposes.

From storing plants and garden chemicals to lawn and garden equipment, plastic sheds are a safe and secure option when it comes to housing all of your useful items for the home and garden.

How do I know which is the best shed for me?

This depends on the amount of space you have and also the amount of possessions you need to store.

The Plastic People sell three different types of shed:

  • Voyager shed (4 x 3)

  • Plastic pent shed (6 x 4)

  • Skylight shed

The smallest is the 4 x 3 voyager shed which is perfect for storing items like wheelie bins, small gardening equipment and even children’s toys for outdoors. On the other hand, the 6 x 4 plastic pent shed is slightly larger and works as an ideal storage unit for lawnmowers and bicycles.

However, if you have a lot of things to store – look no further than our skylight shed. This large plastic shed is spacious, secure, and follows the same style as the traditional timber sheds – so you can be sure it won’t look out of place.

The efficient design also accounts for the cleverly fitted roof vents that still enable the air to flow whilst preventing rainwater from getting inside.  Each shed even contains opaque skylights – letting in plenty of natural light whilst still obstructing the view of your stored items.

This way, your shed is far less likely to be targeted by thieves. That being said, we would always recommend that you ensure your stored items are locked away safely at all times – and the doors on each shed can be padlocked easily.

Our sheds come with single and double door options to enable easy access to your stored items and also include a fold-out ramp. This comes in especially handy for wheeled items like bins or even barbecue sets, for example.

It’s also worth remembering that besides from the plastic sheds themselves, we also sell additional plastic shed products for your shed’s interior

This includes large plastic shed shelving - these work well with the plastic pent shed and especially the skylight shed, enabling you to get even more out of the storage space you have.

We even sell clear polycarbonate sheets for use as plastic summer house windows, for instance. Unlike glass, these are virtually unbreakable.

What type of plastic are the sheds made from?

Shed plastic from The Plastic People is made from super strong polycarbonate. When combined with a rust resistant galvanised aluminium frame, you have a very robust shed that can last for an incredibly long time. We have a range of different options and various shed sizes – from sleek voyager sheds to large sheds such as the skylight.

This type of plastic is ideal for these types of sheds as it never rusts, cracks, rots, bends or discolours. It is also 100% UV stable, so you needn’t worry about sun damage.

Polycarbonate is also easy to clean and maintain. Simply wipe down with hot soapy water as regularly as needed and your shed will look modern and well-presented all year round.

As mentioned above, we also sell clear polycarbonate sheets that are a much safer alternative to glass for use as shed windows. A shed with windows made from polycarbonate is better for outdoor use, as polycarbonate doesn’t shatter and is also easy to wipe down and keep clean over an extended period of time.

Which is better - metal or plastic sheds?

This comes down to personal preference, but both have their own benefits.

When comparing metal sheds with plastic sheds however, there are a few things to bear in mind.

First of all, when it comes to metal sheds, although they can last quite a long time - they will eventually be subject to condensation and rusting over time. This means that they’re not quite as weatherproof as plastic garden sheds - which are immune to rusting altogether.

Then, you need to consider assembly. Metal sheds are much more complex to put together. There are multiple parts that can be quite heavy to shift screw together to avoid any potential leakages.

Plastic storage sheds on the other hand, are assembled in much fewer lightweight parts. This makes it much more easier to build yourself - whereas you may need to hire a professional to come and build a metal shed on your behalf.

Are plastic sheds waterproof?

Yes - provided it has been assembled correctly, a plastic shed is fully waterproof.

All of our plastic shed products are made from high-quality polycarbonate. This means that our plastic sheds are super-strong and reliable against weather damage all year round.

With all this in mind, you can count on your plastic garden shed being leak-free - and all of your stored belongings remaining safe and dry as intended.

How do I assemble my shed?

All of our plastic sheds are home assembly.

This is a case of simply sliding the panels into the frame structure itself – which is a simple and reasonably quick process.

You can read each shed’s individual installation instructions via the Help and Advice tab on each of the respective product pages. This includes a comprehensive step-by-step assembly guide, top view projection and overview of the shed’s dimensions in 3D.
