Our clear acrylic sheets offer near perfect optical clarity and make for great alternatives to glass. That's because acrylic is around 10 x stronger, yet much lighter to handle. Acrylic is also clearer than glass and actually transmits more light. A clear acrylic sheet from The Plastic People also benefits from a high gloss surface, and is exceptionally hard-wearing and easy to form or bend – as well as being physically easier to lift, hang, carry or transport. Should acrylic be dropped, or impacted in any way – it’s much less likely to break. If it does break, it won’t shatter in the same way as glass. It won’t break into tiny sharp shards but into a couple of large, easy to pick up pieces, which makes it ideal for situations where safety is paramount. Acrylic is great for outdoor use – as it has excellent UV resistance and general weathering properties. So, as well as arguably being more straightforward to install – a clear acrylic sheet is much more durable and suitable for outdoor use than a standard glass panel. We supply from a selection of acrylic brands (Policril, Acryglass XT, Oroglass, Altuglas, Plexiglas and Perspex) which are all of a comparable quality, and we use them all in our business. If you have a preference for Perspex you can find it here.
Clear acrylic sheets can be used for a variety of different things. The main applications typically include:
Kitchen splashbacks
Bathroom splashbacks
Secondary glazing
Furniture protectors
However, sheets of acrylic can also be used for retail displays and signage for shops, for example.
