Easyfix Secondary Glazing Fitting Kit

 

Easyfix really is easy to fit yourself.  All you need is a ballpoint pen, a craft knife, a tape measure and a screwdriver.

When using the Easyfix Kit, glazing panels may be fitted to opening windows to allow for ventilation and use of the windows or to the main window frame for maximum insulation and draught proofing.

This kit comprises of 5m of flexible white PVC edging strip suitable for use with 2mm acrylic, 24 nylon fixing clips, 24 wood screws, a mitre block for perfect corner cuts on the edging and easy to follow instructions.

This kit contains screws for fitting to wooden frames. Self tapping screws which are recommended for metal frames can be purchased from your local DIY supplier.

Please make sure that you order your acrylic in a thickness of 2mm only and that your panel will overlap your window frame by 10mm on all four sides.

Please be aware that if the total measurement all the way round your panel is more than 5m you will need to purchase more than one Easyfix Secondary Glazing Fitting Kit.

Helpful Hints - The edging strip is always easier to work with when it’s warm. We suggest placing it in the airing cupboard or similar place the night before use. When placing edging strip onto glass DO NOT run finger down the back of the edging strip to apply it quickly, work a few centimetres at a time.

How should I clean my acrylic windows ?
We are often asked about the best way to care for acrylic glazing. 

Acrylic glazing can be cleaned with warm soapy water and a soft cotton cloth. 

No chemical cleaning products should be used on acrylic as this will lead to damage to the acrylic. 

Alternatively, we are very impressed with suitable cleaner Vuplex for a shiny, cleaner, more lustrous finish with no smears or smudges. It makes colored plastics vibrant, clear plastics virtually transparent and plastic paints gleaming like new.  Vuplex is a product which delivers fast quality results with minimal effort and fuss. It also protects new plastic from scratches and grime and restores plastic which has fine scratches and in ground grime. For this reason we sell it at a promotional price of £5.99.
 
Will secondary glazing eliminate condensation ?
Condensation happens when the moisture content of warm air settles on a colder surface -  the colder the air, the less moisture it can hold.  Windows are are typically colder than the air in a room and therefore a noticeable place for condensation.  .On the face of it, because Secondary Glazing will have little effect on the airborne moisture in the home, it cannot solve condensation problems. On the other hand, because Secondary Glazing helps keep heat in the home which can cause less moisture to condensate, and by insulating windows (the most obvious place for condensation to occur) it certainly can reduce the worst visible effects
 
Will secondary glazing help reduce noise from outside ?
Opinions on the subject vary, especially as much of the information about noise reducing properties of windows comes from manufacturers themselves.  A consensus is that single glazing with a secondary panel is a better insulator than double glazing, and likewise double glazing with a secondary panel beats triple glazing.
 
Will secondary glazing make my home warmer ?
Yes, Secondary Glazing and Double Glazing should both prevent around 60% of window heat loss
 
Will secondary glazing work on larger windows ?
For large windows, such as 1200mm x 1200mm or bigger, you can place a couple of screws immediately below the secondary glazing panel to add support and prevent the chance of it slipping or detaching.

Delivery

We offer a range of delivery options to suit our customer's needs.

Standard Delivery - £15.00
Orders are delivered using our standard delivery service unless you choose otherwise. Standard delivery is charged at £15.00 for most UK postcode areas, however postcodes with prefix letters PA and PH are charged at £30 and postcodes with prefix letters BT, GY, HS, IM, IV, JE, KW, PO, TR and ZE are charged at £40.
The cost of delivery will be displayed as you go through checkout.  

Next Day Delivery - £21.00
We can deliver orders for clear acrylic & polycarbonate (up to 12mm thick), silver acrylic mirror and flexi-edge using our next day delivery service. Orders for next day delivery must be received before 1pm. Orders placed after 1pm selecting next day delivery will be delivered the following working day after. Please note that we define ‘working days’ as Monday to Friday excluding weekends and public holidays.
Unfortunately, we are unable to send orders for next day delivery to postcodes with prefix letters BT, GY, HS, IM, IV, JE, KW, PA, PH, PO, TR and ZE. This is because these postcodes require a longer lead time by our couriers.
Where we can provide next day delivery of your order, we will offer this as an option for you to select at checkout. 

Named Day Delivery - £21.00
We can also deliver on your chosen day to make it easier for you to be home when your order arrives. As you checkout, choose the date you'd like us to deliver on and we'll work to that.
Unfortunately, we are unable to send orders for named day delivery to postcodes with prefix letters BT, GY, HS, IM, IV, JE, KW, PA, PH, PO, TR and ZE. This is because these postcodes require a longer lead time by our couriers.
Where we can provide Named Day Delivery of your order we will offer this as an option for you to select at checkout.
  
Safe Delivery
If we think that your order cannot be delivered safely using our standard service, we will contact you to let you know and discuss the delivery options with you. This normally is only the case for orders so large they need to be delivered on a pallet.  

 

Delivery Times

Orders that aren't being sent on our Next Day or Named Day service will be dispatched as quickly as possible.
Cut-to-size orders are usually delivered within 3 working days. Orders with optional extras or cut-to-shape pieces are usually delivered within 5 working days. These times are based on receiving orders by 1pm.
Once you have added items to the shopping basket, your estimated delivery date will be displayed so that you can see it before choosing to order with us.
Please note that the date supplied at checkout is an estimated date. Please allow time to receive and check your order before you need to use the material or before contractors are due to begin work.
 

Collection

You are welcome to collect your order at our Trade Counter in the Cross Green area of Leeds. This service is free of charge.
If you wish to collect your order instead of having it delivered, please select this option from the dropdown menu when going through the checkout process.
Our Trade Counter is open from 8am until 4pm Monday to Thursday and 8am until 3pm on Fridays. We are closed on weekends and bank holidays.
 

Special Instructions

About Delivery
If you would like to provide any specific delivery instructions, please let us know in the ‘Order Delivery Notes’ box as you go through the checkout. Notes left in this box will be sent directly to the carrier company to assist with the delivery of your order.  You can either choose from our special delivery messages or leave your own. Please note our carriers are unable to call you prior to your delivery and are unable to accept new delivery information once your order has left us.  

About Your Order
If you would like to provide any notes to accompany your order, such as the size of drilled holes or the radius of rounded corners, please leave them in the ‘Order Notes’ box as you checkout. Please use this box to leave us any information regarding the production of your order. Please do not leave delivery instructions here as these notes do not get passed through to the carriers

  • our plastic is also protected by film on both sides so when you receive it simply peel this off to reveal your plastic.

 

Receiving Your Delivery

Someone needs to sign for your order as it is delivered. If you are out when our courier delivers they will leave a card for you to contact them with details on how to pick up your order or rearrange delivery for a more convenient time.

If you know you're not going to be in, you can always provide an alternative delivery address as you place your order with us. For example, a neighbours, relatives or work address.

Please note that we cannot cover the cost of any onward delivery or shipping costs once your item has been delivered by our carriers.


Damages
We take great care packing our orders to make sure that your delivery reaches you in perfect condition.

In the unlikely event that your order arrives with any signs of damage, please sign for it as DAMAGED upon delivery. 

Please email us a photograph of the damage along with your order number within 14 days of receipt and we will get a replacement sent out to you. Please keep your packaging and do not use the damaged goods, so they can be collected and returned to us if necessary.


No Quibble Returns
We aim to please. If we supply imperfect goods or get your order wrong please email and tell us within 14 days and we will replace your order without fuss. Please keep the protective film on the plastic and don't try to use it.

If you want to return plastic to us you the cost of doing so is your responsibility.  We recommend that you use a delivery service which insures the value of the order as the plastic remains your responsibility until it reaches us at:

Cancellations
You have the right to cancel your order for any item purchased from The Plastic People for a full refund except bespoke, cut to size or cut to shape orders made to your specific specifications. If you wish to cancel your order please email us, quoting your order number, within 14 days of the day after you receive the goods.

If your order has already been processed when you email us, you will need to return the goods to us in their original condition using the Returns Procedure here.
