Easy Maintenance

  • Our acrylic splashbacks keep dust and grease marks off much more than stainless steel and glass.
  • Because there are few, if any, joins - our splashbacks are considered much more hygienic than those of steel and glass.
  • Use warm water with a small amount of mild detergent and a soft cotton cloth to clean your coloured splashback.

Alternatively we're very impressed with the results from acrylic cleaner VuPlex which polishes acrylic to a high shine in seconds. Keep your splashback looking like new by adding VuPlex acrylic cleaner to your order today.

Simple Installation

  • Our coloured splashbacks are half the weight of an equivalent glass sheet and 25 x more impact resistant - this makes them very light and safe to handle
  • Fitting is typically 4 x faster than glass splashbacks or ceramic tiles.
  • Our splashbacks can be screwed to new and existing walls. We can pre-drill holes for you, just select them in our form above. We suggest you order your holes and screws every 500mm.
  • Our non translucent splashbacks can also be fixed to new and existing walls using adhesive. We recommend the wall area is prepared white and Strong Stuff adhesive is thinly and evenly spread across the entire splashback before fixing into place. Please note that Strong Stuff dries white, not clear. A 200ml tube covers approx 2 square metres.

Read our blogs about How To Measure and Install A Splashback for step by step advice.

Hob Safe

  • All our splashbacks can be used behind hobs. The distance between the outer edge of a ceramic hob and the wall must be at least 60mm. The distance for gas hobs must be atleast 200mm.

What are acrylic splashbacks?

Acrylic splashbacks are protective wall panels made from acrylic sheets that are commonly used to help protect kitchen and bathroom walls from moisture, heat and splashes arising out of the use of appliances and items in the areas in which they are installed. They are usually installed in parts of these rooms where accidents and environmental issues may arise such as sinks, cooking hobs, showers and similar areas. As they are available in various colours and finishes, acrylic splashbacks offer a modern, hygienic alternative to traditional tiling whilst being easier to maintain and more affordable as an added bonus.

What is the difference between glass and acrylic splashbacks?

Glass and acrylic splashbacks perform essentially the same function, but differ in several key ways. Glass can be more heat and scratch resistant, whereas splashbacks made from acrylic tend to be lighter, more affordable and easier to cut and install. Acrylic also has the advantage of greater colour variety and flexibility in cuts, which can be very useful where custom cuts or aesthetic choices are important.

How to cut acrylic splashbacks?

At the Plastic People we can cut your acrylic Splashback to size for you, so you won’t need to do the cutting yourself! If you’d prefer to buy the acrylic and do the cutting yourself here is a quick guide:

Cutting acrylic splashbacks to the right shape will need the right tools and techniques to be used to avoid cracking the acrylic. For straight cuts, it’s advisable to use a circular saw with a finely-toothed blade, cutting from the side the protective film is on. For anything requiring curving cuts or more detailed shapes, a jigsaw can work well. Always support the sheet properly and cut it slowly when machining it to prevent chipping or health and safety issues. Beforehand, measure twice and mark cutting lines clearly. In terms of safety precautions, ensure that you wear safety glasses and obtain adequate ventilation for the area that you are cutting in.

How do I install acrylic splashbacks?

Firstly, ensure your wall is clean, dry and level, and remove any existing tiles or wallpaper. Measure and mark your splashback area as accurately as possible. Apply a strong adhesive in a grid pattern across the wall or the back of the panel. Carefully position the acrylic sheet, pressing firmly and evenly to ensure full contact. Use temporary supports or spacers to hold it in place whilst the adhesive cures and allow 24 to 48 hours drying time before removing supports. You may want to seal edges with silicone caulk, for a professional finish.

How to clean acrylic splashbacks

One of the reasons we like acrylic splashbacks at The Plastic People is that they are straightforward to clean and maintain. The main cleaning technique for them is simply to wipe regularly with a soft, damp cloth and mild soap solution to remove grease and grime. Avoid abrasive scouring pads or harsh chemicals, which can scratch or damage the surface. Never use solvents, as these can dissolve acrylic.

What adhesive should I use for acrylic splashbacks?

We have a few options for Acrylic adhesives at TPP. A popular and effective option is the Evo-Stik Extru-Fix, which can be quickly and easily applied from the bottle for adhesive purposes for splashbacks in indoor projects. For those rare occasions where outdoor applications are necessary.
