What is white Polypropylene?

Essentially, white polypropylene is a type of plastic that’s known for its high durability and chemical resistance.

It’s often used for commercial purposes - such as wall cladding in hygiene rooms used for food storage and production.

As well as white polypropylene, you can also order Black Polypropylene cut to size with us.

Working with white polypropylene

When it comes to white polypropylene sheets cut to size or shape, there are a number of key features that make it ideal for a variety of different purposes.

  • High flex - Over a certain range of deflection, white Polypropylene has remarkable elastic qualities.
  • High impact strength - white Polypropylene is resistant to severe torsion and bending.
  • Lightweight - white Polypropylene is a dream for manufacturers and distributors thanks to its low density and lightweight properties.
  • Insulation - white Polypropylene conducts electricity well. It’s therefore no surprise that it’s used across a range of electrical appliances.
  • Low cost - white Polypropylene is great value for money and our bespoke sheets are very affordable across all sizes.
  • Extremely tough - white Polypropylene is very durable and an almost unbreakable plastic.
  • Good chemical resistance - as well as being resistant to water, white Polypropylene is also resistant to dilute and concentrated acids, alcohols, bases and mineral oils.
  • Low moisture absorption - this means that it’s more than capable of withstanding almost any environment it’s used in.

FDA approved - white Polypropylene sheets from The Plastic People are fully approved for food contact.

How to bend a white Polypropylene sheet

White Polypropylene machines well - and is known for being easy to fabricate.

In terms of bending, white Polypropylene can be bent in the same way as other plastics.

Once heated beyond its operating temperature, the plastic can be bent - holding its new shape once cooled.

How to cut a white Polypropylene sheet

As you’ll have gathered by looking at the quote calculator above, white Polypropylene is easily cut to the shape or size you require.

Although it’s a very durable material, with strong impact resistance, there is suitable equipment and machinery that can cut polypropylene safely.

How to order your cut to size or shape white Polypropylene

This is straightforward - as long as you have a rough idea of what measurements you need a quote for.

For cut to size orders, sheets are available in three different thicknesses, from a 3mm white plastic sheet up to a 9mm thick sheet (measured in millimetres, centimetres and inches).

You can also select the width (maximum 2440mm) and length (maximum 1220mm) of your sheet as well as any optional extras.

This might include and holes drilled or any screws you order.

The same applies to cut to shape orders - only this will depend on the shape you choose.

If you have a different shape in mind to the six default shapes listed - you can get a quote via email. Then you can upload a drawing that will enable us to give you a more accurate quote.

Protective Films

All plastic sheet products will have a Clear, Blue or White protective film on both sides or a combination of all three. This is to protect during transit and needs removing before usage. Sometimes it can be difficult to peel off but use a thumbnail gently on any corner to lift and peel. Alternatively gently wet any corner with a cloth to separate film and peel.

Adhesives & Sealants

When using any adhesives or sealants with your plastic sheet product great care must be taken in ensuring its compatibility. Some products can react adversely and either not bond/seal properly or would cause the acrylic to cloud or become white at the bond line. Refer to our web pages for advice if unsure. Check your sealant/adhesives ‘use by date’ to ensure its still current for best performance in your project.
