Nylon 6 and Nylon 66 Sheets
Welcome to The Plastic People, where you will find our choice of top-quality nylon sheets which includes versatile, extruded and cast Nylon 6 and 6.6.
Why use Nylon?
Nylon sheets are popular here at The Plastic People because they do many things well. Nylon 6 offers strength, stiffness and good mechanical properties whilst offering good chemical resistance and electrical insulation at a wide range of operating temperatures (-40C to 70C).
Ideal for jigs, fixtures and wear blocks, Nylon 6 is a popular choice. Choose Nylon 6 for a material that is easy to machine, tap, drill and bore coupled with other advantages such as hardness, stiffness, high strength, good creep and wear resistance.
Nylon 6 and Nylon 6.6
If you're looking for all that and a bit more, take a look at Nylon 6.6 (Nylon 66) which delivers extra mechanical strength, stiffness, heat, creep and wear resistance. Just bear in mind the material’s mechanical dampening ability and impact strength are lower than its Nylon 6 counterpart.

Nylon Sheets Range
Our range of nylon sheets includes extruded nylon and oil-filled cast nylon blocks.
What is nylon 6 used for?
Nylon 6 is a versatile engineering plastic with applications across a wide variety of different industries including textiles, automotive parts, consumer goods, and industrial components.
What is nylon 6.6 used for?
Nylon 6.6 is a high-performance synthetic polymer widely utilised across numerous industries. Its properties make it ideal for automotive components, including engine parts and fuel systems. You'll also find it in textiles for clothing and sportswear, mechanical gears, electrical connectors, and industrial machinery parts.
Is nylon 6.6 biodegradable?
No, Nylon 6.6 is not biodegradable in natural environments. As a synthetic polymer is resists biodegradability due to its molecular structure, and if left as it is it will persist in landfills. It can however be recycled, and we would strongly encourage our customers to recycle their used Nylon 6.6 wherever possible.
Can nylon 6 be recycled?
Nylon 6 is indeed recyclable, and it can be reformed into new products during the recycling process. Many recycling facilities accept nylon 6, though collection infrastructure varies by region. Check with your local waste management services to confirm recycling options in your area, as nylon items may require separate handling from other plastics.
Is nylon 6 cuttable? How can it best be cut?
Yes, Nylon 6 is designed to be easy to cut either by hand or by machine, no matter the thickness or shape. Thin sheets can be cut with knives (although a straight edge and steady hand will be needed) and thicker sections can be worked on using power tools such as saws and CNC machinery. When using power tools to cut Nylon 6 always be sure to follow safety precautions such as using eye protection and work gloves, and don’t use too high a speed (a moderate speed is sufficient). Secure your material firmly to prevent slipping and allow the blade to do the work rather than forcing it, which can cause melting or rough edges. A key consideration when using machine tools is preventing heat buildup during cutting, as friction can melt the material and create rough edges.
Is nylon 6 or 6.6 stronger?
In normal circumstances Nylon 6.6 is more likely to be stronger than Nylon 6. It has better tensile strength and heat resistance, whilst Nylon 6 has the advantage of being more flexible and easier to machine. Which one you use will depend on your specific circumstances, and we have a variety of different types available here at The Plastic People. From extruded sheets to cut to size as well as cast and rod options, you’ll have plenty of choice about what type of Nylon product you can get for your projects when you shop with us.
