Structural Hardwood Plywood Sheets
Our structural grade hardwood plywood is manufactured using a eucalyptus core. Eucalyptus hardwood plywood is strong and resistant to rot while being more affordable than other types of hardwood. The panel is faced on both sided with a mixed red hardwood backing veneer.
Red hardwood is resistant to rot and insect damage. As the name suggests, structural hardwood plywood is a strong and robust choice for load-bearing applications, interior flooring and more. While structural hardwood can be used for external applications if it is properly sealed, we would recommend using marine grade plywood wherever the material may be exposed to high levels of damp or weather.
Hardwood Plywood cut-to-size
Save yourself the hassle of cutting plywood yourself with our cut to size service. We can cut your hardwood plywood board to custom shapes and dimensions, and can also add custom cutouts as well.
Hardwood Plywood thickness
We offer several thickness options for our hardwood plywood, ranging from 5.5mm to 18mm. When choosing your thickness, consider how your plywood will be used. Thicker sheets are better for load-bearing applications, while thinner sheets are a lightweight option for cladding or decorative use. Thicknesses available: 5.5mm, 9mm, 12mm, 18mm.
Softwood vs Hardwood Plywood
Hardwood plywood is stronger and more head-wearing than softwood plywood, such as Elliotis Plywood. Hardwood plywood also tends to be heavier. Hardwood plywood is also more resistant to warping. However, since softwoods are easier to source, softwood plywood tends to be cheaper. When deciding between hardwood or softwood plywood, consider what kind of capabilities or durability you need.
Hardwood Plywood FAQs
Can hardwood plywood be used outside?
Hardwood plywood is suitable for external use, providing that all the edges are effectively sealed. This will prevent damp from getting into the material and damaging it. It will withstand being outside better than softwood plywood. However, for long-lasting external use we would suggest our marine grade plywood, which has superior water resistant properties.
Can you paint Hardwood Plywood?
All plywood can be painted, just be sure to adequately prime or seal the plywood before applying paint. Plywood absorbs a lot of paint, so it is important to prepare the surface first for a professional finish. If your project will be outside, make sure you choose a suitable paint for exterior use.
Is Hardwood Plywood waterproof
Hardwood plywood is water resistant, but not completely waterproof.
Frequently Asked Questions about Hardwood Plywood
What are the disadvantages of plywood hardwood?
Plywood's thin veneers can splinter when cut, so care is needed to avoid this. Sanding plywood must be done carefully to avoid sanding through the veneers and exposing the core. Plywood is more likely to warp than solid wood, though less likely than softwood. Plywood is not fully waterproof and can deteriorate in harsh environments if not treated properly.
What is plywood hardwood used for?
Plywood hardwood is used for a variety of construction and design projects, including furniture, cabinets, and roofing. It is a strong, versatile, and cost-effective alternative to solid wood. Hardwood plywood offers numerous advantages, including outstanding strength and stability from its multiple layers of hardwood veneer, a beautiful natural wood appearance that enhances aesthetic appeal, and exceptional durability for long-lasting projects.
What is plywood hardwood ideal for?
Hardwood plywood is ideal for projects that require strong, stable surfaces with a good aesthetic finish, such as furniture making, cabinetry, interior design elements like paneling, millwork, doors, and high-end construction where a beautiful grain is desired. Its strength also makes it suitable for load-bearing frames.

Storage
Whilst every effort is made to ensure your wood products arrive in pristine condition care must be taken on delivery to ensure your products are not damaged and to keep them wrapped until needed in a cool, dry place. We sell MDF, Plywood and OSB which have varying degree of manufacturing treatments including flame and moisture resistance. Whilst these products are resilient, they mustn’t be stored or used outside as the elements would delaminate and perish your item especially if they get wet or affected by frost. Some treated wood products are water resistant, not waterproof.
Adhesives & Sealants
When using any adhesives or sealants with your wood sheet product great care must be taken in ensuring its compatibility. Some products can react adversely and either not bond/seal properly or create a poor finish which isn’t good if its going to be visible. Refer to our web pages for advice if unsure. Check your sealant/adhesives ‘use by date’ to ensure its still current for best performance in your project.
