What’s the difference between MR MDF and normal MDF?
MR MDF has been coated in a moisture-repellent resin before it’s delivered to you – hence the name!
Why use Moisture Resistant MDF?
If you use wood in humid areas, then there’s a good chance it will split or swell over time. Moisture resistant MDF is designed to function in these humid areas, and is often a cheaper alternative to wood.
How water resistant is MR MDF?
As the name suggests, moisture resistant MDF isn’t fully waterproof. You can’t submerge it in water or use it in areas where it would be frequently splashed by water – meaning it isn’t suitable for outdoors where it will be rained on.
What is the thickness of MR MDF?
Our MR MDF comes in a variety of thickness – from 6mm to 25mm, so you can pick depending on what you need.
Do I need to prime MR MDF before gloss?
In short, yes. If you’re planning on painting MDF, both water resistant or not, it should be primed first. These seals the MDF so the top coat of paint sits nicely on top instead of being absorbed into the material.

Storage
Whilst every effort is made to ensure your wood products arrive in pristine condition care must be taken on delivery to ensure your products are not damaged and to keep them wrapped until needed in a cool, dry place. We sell MDF, Plywood and OSB which have varying degree of manufacturing treatments including flame and moisture resistance. Whilst these products are resilient, they mustn’t be stored or used outside as the elements would delaminate and perish your item especially if they get wet or affected by frost. Some treated wood products are water resistant, not waterproof.
Adhesives & Sealants
When using any adhesives or sealants with your wood sheet product great care must be taken in ensuring its compatibility. Some products can react adversely and either not bond/seal properly or create a poor finish which isn’t good if its going to be visible. Refer to our web pages for advice if unsure. Check your sealant/adhesives ‘use by date’ to ensure its still current for best performance in your project.
Delivery Damages
You have 14 days from receiving your order to report any visible damages. Please email a photograph of the damage along with your order number and contact details as soon as possible to service@theplasticpeople.co.uk. We'll arrange a refund or replacement for you as soon as we receive this. Please keep your packaging and do not use the damaged goods, so they can be collected and returned to us if necessary.
