Grey PVC Extruded Sheets

Easy to machine Grey PVC sheets, economical choice

U-PVC extruded sheets are stocked in white and grey in a smooth finish. White has a strong presence in the display and hygienic market, whilst offering an alternative to grey for fabrication use. PVC Extruded Sheets have a maximum long term service temperature of plus 60°C and a melting point of around plus 75°C.

PVC Sheeting is also an excellent electrical insulator and can be used to protect electrical components. PVC Sheets also have very low moisture absorption, helping keep components stable in a damp or wet atmosphere. Only PVC Sheeting has a very good chemical and acid resistance making it a great product where acid resistance is a necessity.

We also stock White PVC Extruded sheets.

PVC is considered easy to bond. The following plastics are also generally considered easy to bond:

  • Nylon 6
  • Nylon 6.6
  • PEEK
  • PVC
  • Polyurethane
  • Tufnol
  • Acrylic
  • Polycarbonate
  • ABS

The following plastics are considered difficult to bond:

  • Acetal
  • Delrin
  • Oilon
  • HDPE
  • Polypropylene
  • PTFE
  • RG1000
  • UHMWPE
  • PVDF

Is PVC considered easy to machine?

PVC is generally considered easy to machine. It is commonly machined to a similar degree of difficulty as:

  • Acetal
  • Delrin
  • Cast Nylon 6
  • Nylon 6.6
  • Oilon
  • HDPE
  • PEEK
  • RG1000
  • Tufnol

Is PVC considered good for chemical resistance?

Yes — PVC is considered good for chemical resistance. Other plastics with good chemical resistance include:

  • Acetal
  • HDPE
  • Polypropylene
  • PTFE
  • PEEK
  • RG1000
  • UHMWPE

Is PVC considered to have good wear resistance?

PVC is not classed as a high wear resistant plastic. Plastics known for higher wear resistance include:

  • Delrin
  • Nylon 6
  • Nylon 6.6
  • Oilon
  • HDPE
  • Polypropylene
  • Polyurethane
  • PEEK
  • RG1000
  • Whale Tufnol
  • UHMWPE
  • PET

Operating temperature of PVC

Long-term: 60 degrees centigrade (60 °C).
Short-term: 80 degrees centigrade (80 °C).

Long-term is typically between 5,000-20,000 hours operating at this temperature without losing more than 50% of performance. Short-term typically means up to 2 hours at any one time.

Protective Films

All plastic sheet products will have a Clear, Blue or White protective film on both sides or a combination of all three. This is to protect during transit and needs removing before usage. Sometimes it can be difficult to peel off but use a thumbnail gently on any corner to lift and peel. Alternatively gently wet any corner with a cloth to separate film and peel.

Adhesives & Sealants

When using any adhesives or sealants with your plastic sheet product great care must be taken in ensuring its compatibility. Some products can react adversely and either not bond/seal properly or would cause the acrylic to cloud or become white at the bond line. Refer to our web pages for advice if unsure. Check your sealant/adhesives ‘use by date’ to ensure its still current for best performance in your project.

Please email a photograph of the damage along with your order number and contact details as soon as possible to service@theplasticpeople.co.uk. We'll arrange a refund or replacement for you as soon as we receive this. Please keep your packaging and do not use the damaged goods, so they can be collected and returned to us if necessary.
