FR MDF is made using a fire retardant adhesive. This creates a finished product that is highly resistant to flame spread, but is still considered combustible. The highest rating is Class A, so a Class B rating is still highly flame retardant. For full specifications see our FR MDF data sheet or contact a member of our team. "
Frequently Asked Questions about Flame Retardant MDF
What are the disadvantages of flame retardant MDF?
Although flame-retardant MDF is relatively stable in structure, its bending resistance and load-bearing capacity are not as good as solid wood or other composite materials. It may not be suitable for applications that bear heavy objects.
Is flame retardant MDF better than standard MDF?
Yes, flame retardant MDF is considered "better" than standard MDF when fire safety is a primary concern. It has been treated with chemicals to significantly slow down the spread of flames, making it more suitable for applications where fire resistance is required, such as public buildings or certain interior design elements, while still maintaining most of the working properties of regular MDF.
Where would I use flame retardant MDF?
Flame Retardant B MDF is typically used in interior applications where fire safety is a priority, such as in public buildings like schools, hospitals, hotels, offices, libraries, cinemas, courtrooms, and retail spaces. It is mainly used for non-structural elements like wall linings, partitions, display panels, and ceilings due to its fire-resistant properties.

Storage
Whilst every effort is made to ensure your wood products arrive in pristine condition care must be taken on delivery to ensure your products are not damaged and to keep them wrapped until needed in a cool, dry place. We sell MDF, Plywood and OSB which have varying degree of manufacturing treatments including flame and moisture resistance. Whilst these products are resilient, they mustn’t be stored or used outside as the elements would delaminate and perish your item especially if they get wet or affected by frost. Some treated wood products are water resistant, not waterproof.
Adhesives & Sealants
When using any adhesives or sealants with your wood sheet product great care must be taken in ensuring its compatibility. Some products can react adversely and either not bond/seal properly or create a poor finish which isn’t good if its going to be visible. Refer to our web pages for advice if unsure. Check your sealant/adhesives ‘use by date’ to ensure its still current for best performance in your project.
Delivery Damages
