Where Can Polycarbonate Panels Be Used?
As mentioned above, polycarbonate is useful for a number of reasons – and can be utilised for different things around your home or garden. With The Plastic People, our clear polycarbonate sheets are actually UV protected – which makes them an excellent choice for outdoor use. This therefore makes them ideal for safe, cold frame glazing, sheds and garden storage. Clear polycarbonate sheets when cut to the desired size or shape can be used as secondary glazing to make windows and door around your home much more secure if needed.
Multiwall and twin polycarbonate sheet are more than suitable for roof glazing – providing remarkable impact resistance, long-term weather durability, and high levels of light transmission and heat insulation. Polycarbonate roofing sheets also work well in the form of patio covers, swimming pool covering, conservatory roofing, carports and canopies – whilst polycarbonate greenhouse sheets are simply the perfect alternative to outdoor glass.
As well as being lightweight, robust and durable, our polycarbonate sheets also come with a 10 year guarantee against yellowing, ageing and hailstone damage. Therefore, you needn’t worry too much about your investment becoming weathered over time after being exposed to the elements.
What Is the Difference between Polycarbonate and Acrylic?
Polycarbonate and acrylic are both similar in the sense that they are both clear plastics. Although they are both very stronger than glass, polycarbonate panels are actually stronger than acrylic. While acrylic is 10x more impact resistant than glass, polycarbonate is 200x more impact resistant than glass. Acrylic is strong, whereas polycarbonate is virtually indestructible – hence why it’s often used for making police riot shields, for instance.
Polycarbonate can also handle higher temperatures than acrylic – which can be used at temperatures up to 140 degrees Fahrenheit at short bursts. When it comes to cleaning both plastics, it’s advised to clean acrylic with warm, soapy water. However, it’s also worth bearing in mind that neither acrylic or polycarbonate should be cleaned with solvents.
