Clear Perspex ® Cast Acrylic
Perspex® clear cast acrylic is a British made superior thermoplastic material. It is commonly favoured for its aesthetic qualities and chosen for the combination of its remarkable transparency, weightlessness, super strength, and weathering. More detail can be found below. Our Perspex® clear cast acrylic comes with protective film on both sides to keep these Perspex® sheets in excellent condition. For advice about choosing acrylic please do not hesitate to get in touch with our friendly team of plastic experts. We do sell other brands of comparable clear acrylic which you can find here. Remarkable transparency.
Perspex® clear cast acrylic offers exceptional light transmission in excess of 92% of visible light. It is superior to all other thermoplastic sheets and higher than that of glass with virtually no colour bias. This makes it an excellent alternative to glass for glazing projects. Even after 10 years of outdoor exposure, Perspex® clear cast acrylic will continue to transmit 85% of visible light while other thermoplastic sheet will show a much greater reduction over the same period.
Lightweight with Super Strength
Perspex® clear cast acrylic is exceptionally hard wearing. It is half the weight of glass while also being much stronger. This makes it an excellent and safer choice for fabrication, installation and transportation.
Chemical and Water Resistance
Further to its remarkable transparency and strength, Perspex ® clear cast acrylic also displays very low water absorption, superb chemical resistance and a wide working temperature range of -34oC – 80oC. This makes it great for use in hygienic areas where it may be repeatedly cleaned, and it is also approved for food contact.
Aesthetic Qualities
Perspex® clear cast acrylic isa leading material with a high gloss surface ideal for edge polishing to bring a high gloss shine. Perspex® clear cast acrylic is suitable for outdoor use: it will not yellow or discolour through exposure to sunlight.
Frequently Asked Questions about MDF and Acrylic
What are the advantages of standard MDF?
Medium-density fibreboard (MDF) has many advantages, including cost, versatility, and ease of working with. MDF is less expensive than solid wood, making it a good choice for budget-conscious projects. It is a cost-effective option for homeowners looking to improve their interiors.
Can acrylic be used behind a hob?
Acrylic can be used for kitchen splashbacks, but the following distances should be kept between the outer edge of your hob and the acrylic: at least 60mm for ceramic hobs and at least 200mm for gas hobs. Acrylic is not suitable for use behind an Aga or similar range cooker.
See our splashback pages for further details.
Can acrylic be used in bathrooms?
Acrylic can be used for bathroom splashbacks, shower splashbacks, and bath panels, especially routed panels that are machined to specification.
Acrylic can be delivered at a maximum size of 3m x 2m, allowing it to cover a large area without seams (meaning no grouting is required). Because acrylic is so light, lifting and fixing it to walls is a straightforward DIY task.

Protective Films
All plastic sheet products will have a Clear, Blue or White protective film on both sides or a combination of all three. This is to protect during transit and needs removing before usage. Sometimes it can be difficult to peel off but use a thumbnail gently on any corner to lift and peel. Alternatively gently wet any corner with a cloth to separate film and peel.
Adhesives & Sealants
When using any adhesives or sealants with your plastic sheet product great care must be taken in ensuring its compatibility. Some products can react adversely and either not bond/seal properly or would cause the acrylic to cloud or become white at the bond line. Refer to our web pages for advice if unsure. Check your sealant/adhesives ‘use by date’ to ensure its still current for best performance in your project.
