Where can clear acrylic sheet be used?
Made to measure Perspex sheeting is ideal for a wide variety of purposes around the home. Transparent plastic sheet made from acrylic is exceptionally hard wearing yet very easy to handle – making them also ideal for outdoor use.
You can cut Perspex to size for a range of garden applications. Whether it’s greenhouse glazing or shed windows – these types of Perspex sheets can withstand the elements, offering you great value over time.
Moving indoors, you can take the tape measure around your bathroom to help you get the right acrylic cut to size quote for shower splashbacks, for example. You can even measure your windows to get an idea of how much clear acrylic glass you’d need for secondary glazing, too.
Ordering clear acrylic board cut to size
It’s easy to get a quote for clear acrylic sheets once you enter your measurements into our quote calculator.
In addition to your acrylic panels, you can also add some optional extras to your quote if you feel they’re of benefit. You can add rubber stops, screws and screw covers, and you can also select whether you’d like for us to polish the edges of your order to add a high gloss shine.
If you do need screws to fix your plastic sheets into place, we can also drill holes into the clear sheet itself. All you need to do is enter the number of holes you need drilling and then select the size you need the holes to be.
And, if you have particular place where you need the holes to be positioned – you can also upload a drawing (up to 5MB).
Ordering clear acrylic sheeting cut to shape. You can also get a quote for clear acrylic cut to shape.
You can order Perspex cut to measure in six different shapes:
- T-Shape
- L-Shape
- Triangle
- Semi-Circle

As with cut to size orders for clear plastic sheeting, you need to enter your preferred measurements in millimetres, centimetres or inches.
Since we’re dealing with shapes, you’ll need to enter the exact dimensions of each edge of your chosen shape (diameter for circle and oval).
Again, you can also add several optional extras to your order if needed.

Acrylic & MDF — FAQs
What are the advantages of standard MDF?
Medium-density fibreboard (MDF) has many advantages, including cost, versatility, and ease of working with. MDF is less expensive than solid wood, making it a good choice for budget-conscious projects. MDF is a cost-effective option for homeowners looking to improve their interiors.
Can acrylic be used behind a hob?
Acrylic can be used for kitchen splashbacks but the following distances should be kept between the outer edge of your hob and the acrylic: at least 60 mm for ceramic hobs and at least 200 mm for gas hobs. Acrylic is not suitable for use behind an Aga or similar range cooker.
Can acrylic be used in bathrooms?
Acrylic can be used for bathroom splashbacks, shower splashbacks and bath panels, especially routed panels that are machined to specification.
Acrylic can be delivered at a maximum size of 3 m × 2 m, allowing large areas to be covered without the need for seams (meaning no more grouting!). Because acrylic is so light, lifting and fixing it to walls is a fairly straightforward DIY task.
Can I buy acrylic offcuts?
Our acrylic is sold cut to size so we can supply exactly what you need. Working in this way reduces our offcuts and anything too small to reuse is collected for recycling.
How can I clean acrylic?
We recommend warm soapy water and a soft cotton cloth. Avoid any chemical cleaner, as it is likely to damage the acrylic. If you would like to use a cleaning product, we suggest Vuplex acrylic cleaner and polish.
How do I dispose of acrylic?
Acrylic sheet is classified as group 7 plastic. Although group 7 plastics can be recycled, most councils do not collect them in kerbside collections. The best way to dispose of unwanted acrylic is to take it to your local household waste and recycling centre.
How do I remove scratches from acrylic?
Scratches can be removed from acrylic at home. Read our step-by-step blog post for full instructions on how to polish acrylic.
How does acrylic compare to other plastics in strength?
Polycarbonate is stronger than acrylic and is virtually unbreakable, followed by PET/PETG and then acrylic. Compared to glass, acrylic is around 10 times stronger and polycarbonate around 200 times stronger.
How flexible is acrylic?
Acrylic is relatively flexible compared to glass. Thin acrylic sheets bend more easily than thicker ones. Over-flexing can cause cracking or breaking. We can bend acrylic to your requirements — just email us with your needs.
How scratch resistant is acrylic?
Acrylic is reasonably hard-wearing but will scratch if something sharp or abrasive is used on it. Surface scratches can be removed with a proprietary acrylic scratch remover — see our blog post for details.
How should I clean acrylic?
Acrylic should not be cleaned with chemical cleaners, as this can cause damage. Use warm soapy water and a soft cotton cloth. We recommend Vuplex cleaner for a high-shine finish that protects against scratches and grime.
How strong is acrylic?
In impact resistance tests, acrylic has been found to be 10–20 times stronger than glass.
Is acrylic better than glass?
Acrylic is 17× stronger and about half the weight of glass, making it easier to handle and safer. If dropped, acrylic is less likely to break, and if it does, it breaks into large blunt-edged pieces rather than sharp shards. It is also clearer than glass and transmits more light.
Is acrylic heat resistant?
Acrylic is heat resistant up to 70 °C.
Is acrylic safe for food?
Yes, acrylic is food safe and will not leach toxic chemicals like BPA.
Is acrylic suitable for outdoor use?
Yes, acrylic can be used outside.
Is clear acrylic suitable for secondary glazing?
Yes, acrylic is a good choice for secondary glazing, offering increased thermal and sound insulation and extra security. For greater strength, polycarbonate is recommended as it is roughly 30 times stronger than acrylic.
What are the advantages of acrylic over glass?
- Acrylic transmits 92% of visible light versus 80–90% for glass.
- No discolouration at any thickness.
- Scratches in acrylic can be polished out; scratched glass usually must be replaced.
- Does not shatter into sharp shards.
- 20% more efficient than glass in reducing temperature flux.
What are the benefits of acrylic splashbacks?
- Versatile — can be cut and fabricated to size.
- Durable — high impact resistance.
- Hygienic — seamless installation reduces bacteria traps.
- Long-lasting — resistant to fading.
- Lightweight — easy to handle and install.
What is the difference between Perspex and acrylic?
Perspex is a brand name for acrylic (polymethyl methacrylate, PMMA). Other brand names include Plexiglas®, Acrylite®, Altuglas®, and Lucite®.
Why should I use acrylic instead of glass?
Acrylic is about half the weight and 10× the strength of glass, making it safer and easier to handle. It also:
- Insulates better than glass
- Requires less energy to manufacture
- Offers better impact resistance
- Provides higher optical clarity
- Can be easily shaped and fabricated
- Can be polished to remove scratches

Protective Films
All plastic sheet products will have a Clear, Blue or White protective film on both sides or a combination of all three. This is to protect during transit and needs removing before usage. Sometimes it can be difficult to peel off but use a thumbnail gently on any corner to lift and peel. Alternatively gently wet any corner with a cloth to separate film and peel.
Adhesives & Sealants
When using any adhesives or sealants with your plastic sheet product great care must be taken in ensuring its compatibility. Some products can react adversely and either not bond/seal properly or would cause the acrylic to cloud or become white at the bond line. Refer to our web pages for advice if unsure. Check your sealant/adhesives ‘use by date’ to ensure its still current for best performance in your project.
