How manufacturers improve industrial rescue vehicle for specialised applications

Challenges
Operating and maintenance in local conditions, terrain and climate are key challenges for our customer manufacturing industrial rescue vehicles - on top of usual challenges for modern vehicle body manufacturers of flexibility, innovation and quality at the best possible price. 

With extensive experience in the design and manufacture of fire fighting vehicles for use at industrial sites, our manufacturing customer required a high performance, specialised fire fighting vehicle tanker capable of holding high volumes of water as well as foam.

Approach
The scope required a customised tanker to be manufactured for a 4 axel vehicle capable of holding 15, 000 litres of water and a further tank for housing foam. The tanker, for use on a petro-chemical plant, was customised for this specialised application.

The Plastic People team used their experience in manufacturing rescue vehicle bodies to manufacture the industrial fire fighting tanker shown here. The pioneering co-polymer chosen for the manufacture enabled the creation of a significantly stronger yet considerably lighter, more durable tanker capable of safely holding and distributing the required volume of water and foam.  The tanker also requires less maintenance (actionable on site) and provids a greater lifetime value.

Results
The tanker provided an incredibly durable, lightweight and economic structure enabling capavity and distribution of 15, 000 litres of water and foam for emergency use on a petro-chemical plant.

The plastic tank provided greater economic return than the traditional aluminium and GRP solutions.  Additional advantages include improved impact resistance and ease of repair locally.

The co-polymer used gave the tanker sueprb impact resistance. This translates in the field to little or no damage. It also offered high heat resistance: the vehicle paint will ignite and tyres melt before it is even affected.

The financial advantages of the new tanker include lower operational costs and a longer lifetime value of up to 40 years, plus a re-mountable option for a 'second life' and totally recyclable raw materials,
