To The Rescue - Building a 24 hour Recovery Vehicle

Challenge
The biggest challenge for our customer providing a 24 hour recovery service is, not surprisingly, having a recovery vehicle ready and running 24 hours every day. Our challenge was to build their modern 24 hour ready recovery vehicle body.  As well as increased service availability, our challenge was to produce a vehicle which was easier to clean and strong and tough enough to  provide both road side and off road recovery.

Approach
Our approach drew upon our extensive experience in designing and manufacturing vehicle bodies to build a recovery vehicle body onto our customers recovery vehicle frame.  We chose to manufacture with plastic developed to provide superior compressive strength and flexibility so that the recovery vehicle body would provide  a competitive advantage in being durable yet lightweight with greater strength – thus offering a robust vehicle body with greater impact resistance and a longer life span than conventional metals aluminium, mild steel and stainless steel. The durable solution requiring very little maintenance was designed to make running a 24 hour recovery service easier for our customer.  Our approach also centred on ease of use as well as increased service availability of the vehicle body. Working in partnership with our customer, vehicle body design was improved by internalising key components and functions to improve load capacity, longevity and design.

Results
The recovery vehicle body manufactured by The Plastic People is a more durable, lighter and economic solution for our recovery service customer.   The plastic recovery vehicle body enables more operational up-time and delivers a greater economic return than the traditional aluminium and steel solutions.  Additional advantages include improved design and ease of repair locally, should it ever be required.  The co-polymer used gives this recover vehicle superb impact resistance meaning damage is very unlikely, enabling our 24 hour rescue service to run as around the clock.

The financial advantages of the new recovery vehicle body include lower running costs, greater service availability and an incredibly long operational life of up to 40 years, plus a re-mountable option for a “second life” and totally recyclable raw materials.
